LAist had the chance to check in with comedian/radio personality/Emmy Award winning writer Greg Fitzsimmons last night as he drove to Hollywood from the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino where he earned a standing ovation, opening up for Artie Lange. Driving from the desert to Hollywood isn't something the Venice Beach resident does on a regular basis, luckily we had access to Google Maps serving as interviewer/navigator to Greg on his journey. The drive......

Friday night marked the final performance of Of Montreal's LA stint and it will never slip from my memory. I felt like I was tripping on acid. I had the worst cold I've contracted in years, surely that didn't help, and random imagery (Dave Navarro, grizzly bears, cartoon heads, and iTunes-like visualizers) was in full effect throughout the night. Between MGMT's psychedelic, synth-laden set, Grand Buffet's abrasive, hilarious antics, and the filming Of Montreal's......

Naked Ambition, book of photos of the adult industry by photographer Michael Grecco "Like everything else in this business, this is chaos." This is what Lonn Friend, Naked Ambition writer, told me when I showed up at the Naked Ambition signing at Book Soup in reference to the way the event was going. For an event full of porn stars, it was actually quite tame, and not so much chaotic as lackadaisical. But, I......

On Halloween, pornstar and director (not to mention a former girlfriend of Howard Stern Show staffmember JD Harmeyer) Kimberly Kane (MySpace) celebrated the release of her Vivid-Alt (MySpace) movie Triple Ecstasy with a party at the self-described "industrial disco-tech" Das Bunker (MySpace) in Los Angeles. Among those in attendance besides Vivid-Alt head Eon McKai (MySpace) and director Octavio "Winkytiki" Arizala (MySpace) were pornstar-turned-photographer Gia Jordan (MySpace), former porn journalist(?) Luke Ford, and starlets Sasha......

People talk about Britney, but Dave Navarro went from being the shirtless guitarist in Jane's Addiction, to being married to Carmen Electra, to hosting a tv show where they weed out cheesy singers to find one that doesn't completely suck. Now we find Dave interviewing people buying Halo 3 on Sunset & Vine. Rock is officially dead.......

She didn't win the Rockstar: Supernova gig, but it's just as well because that freaky Canadian dude didn't really take the world over either, infact did that band ever play any gigs? All we know is this version of the National Anthem was performed right before the Season 2 finale of The Contender at a fight that looks to be in Staples Center. And we know that Storm successfully milked this song out for......

So if you don't feel like driving that hour+ to some party in the Valley, or to some party anywhere in Los Angeles, you can always turn on the TV. There's nothing like watching the 3-hour tape-delayed disco ball drop to reaffirm your existence. Tomorrow - Sunday - New Years Eve "Twilight Zone Marathon" (SciFi, ALL DAY) "Seinfeld Marathon" (TBS, ALL DAY) "Marx Brothers Marathon" (TCM, starting at 5:15 p.m.) (other marathons include "Ace......

Former Jane's Addiction guitarist and current Panic Channel heart-throb Dave Navarro has had a crazy year. His split from Carmen Electra was public and messy, the TV show that he co-hosted with Brooke Burke was highly-rated and messy, but all along he has been one of LA's most reliable celebrity bloggers, giving guys like Wil Wheaton a run for Most Popular LA Celeb Blogger. A mix between updating his fans on his tour schedule......

After a summer-long audition, the Rockstar band formerly known as Supernova finally chose a singer tonight: Lukas Rossi. It wasn't a surprise that Magni was the first of the final four to go. Though he performed his blistering rendition of "Fire" again, American audiences never really connected with the man from Iceland. We were a little more surpised that likeable Aussie beefcake Toby got booted next. So it came down to Dilana and Lukas......

Rockstar: Supernova took a wrong turn down American Idol alley tonight, taping the arrival of the singers in their tricked out Honda Elements. We'll take solace that at least they didn't air commercials of the rockers riding the Elements through Hollywood like AI contestants did with the Ford Focus. So they didn't cheese out entirely. But there is one more show left.. All five of the finalists were in the bottom three at some......

What's up with all the Dilana bashing on Rockstar: Supernova lately? Sure, she might be the new drama queen now that Zayra's gone (read last week's entry about cutting Magni in the head), but no one can deny that the girl can sing. First, the house band leader mocked her re-arrangement of her first song; and nice guy guitarist Gilby Clarke bashed on her songwriting abilities even before she kicked off last night's show.......

Dear Zayra, LAist wanted to drop you a line and apologize for the Zayra hating we've done over the past few weeks. Dilana doesn't hold a candle to you. We'd like to say that we were wrong about your take on "All the Young Dudes" and "867-5309/Jenny". We admit that we were a bit jealous of your fashion sense. We absolutely loved, loved, loved your outfits. Especially the trapeze artist/cape thingy. Last night, girl,......

People want to know how they can get their video on either the 4:20 Video Time or the Midnight Movie. One way is to dump your Playmate wifey for the biggest name in Adult film. Yes, going from Carmen Electra to Jenna Jameson is an upgrade - only because the rumors might be true that Carm never got over Dennis Rodman, and really no matter who Jenna has "worked with" there isn't anyone in......

For the past few weeks, Supernova – a new group pieced together from Motley Crue (Tommy Lee), Metallica (Jason Newsted) and Guns N' Roses (Gilby Clarke) – has been auditioning lead singers on CBS, and some are quite good like Dilana, Josh and Storm. But then there’s Zayra. Zayra Alvarez is a hot-blooded and, at times, a hot-tempered chica, who’s not averse to giving lip to her would-be bosses. We think she’s even mentioned......

Staggering in the footsteps of several other celebrities who found themselves in similar situations after consuming too much and saying or doing inappropriate things (Rush Limbaugh, Martin Lawrence, Courtney Love, Charlie Sheen, Kelsey Grammer, Andy Dick, and of course Robert Downey Jr.,) today Mel Gibson entered rehab for his drinking problem. David Mamet, yes that David Mamet, makes a funny at Mad Max's plight. In other bad news, Beck's new video and song is......

Congratulations to Jose Canseco for winning the Home Run Hitting contest at the Golden Baseball All-Star game yesterday. We wont mention his "perfomance" on the mound. Congratulations Dave Navarro, for using your blog perfectly to answer the pressing questions: What does amicably separated mean? It means that Carmen and I love each other, we are and always will be best friends. In fact, we are supporting each other through this time. What better way......

The kiss of death of relationships appears to be having an MTV reality show about your wedding or your first year as newlyweds, it appears, as today Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro have announced they're headed for divorce. MTV is reporting that Electra's rep confirmed the rumors that have been plastered across gossip and celeb magazines for months, that the pair of Carm and Dave are now single. Navarro, the co-host of NBC's "Rockstar"......

After being all 4th of July-ed out, this LAist poster settled in for a mellow night in front of the boob tube. But the network pickings were slim. We're talking skinnier than Nicole Richie. NBC-4 showed two hours of dreck with America's Got Talent. FOX aired two hours of So You Think You Can Dance. And ABC offered viewers George Lopez, Freddie (yes, Prinze Jr. has a TV show) and two repeat episodes of......

The LA Weekly weighs in this week with Kate Sullivan's plea to save Indie 103. Realizing we're in the minority (even among LAisters), we have to say, no thanks. Because: 1. ClearChannel explicitly said its goal was to suck ad dollars away from KROQ -- to screw with the smaller conglomerate that owns KROQ. (Audio link). They don't want to create an alternative rock station: they just want to weaken and kill someone else's......
