Police Warn Against Lighting Up at Cypress Hill Smokeout

This weekend is the big two-day music festival and cannabis expo at the San Manuel Amphitheater and police are ready to make arrests. Cypress Hills, Slipnot, Deftones among many other bands are playing alongside the Cannibus Cup, Medical Marijuana Expo and 4:20 Movie Night. In a statement, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department warns against any recreational use of the drug. "Further, there is no provision in the law for the use of marijuana while operating a motor vehicle, whether someone possesses a doctor's recommendation for the drug or not."

Seven Questions with DJ Solo of the Soul Assassins

LA has a diverse cast of characters. Whether it's the characters with stirring stories or interesting occupations or the people who are just simply characters, this town has them all. In an effort to get to know some of those characters a little better, we've created "Seven Questions with..."

Tonight (10pm) marks the fifth annual installment of VH-1's Hip Hop Honors, a program saluting the contributions of the genre's pioneers and players. This year's honorees include: De La Soul, Slick Rick, Naughty by Nature, Too Shot and Los Angeles' own Cypress Hill.

Not since Pee Wee's Playhouse has there been a children's show that grown-ups can enjoy as much as kids. Washington DC's local cable-access show, Pancake Mountain, has been attracting rockers like Deerhoof, Scissor Sisters, and Arcade Fire since 2003. Scott Stuckey's concept for the program was to have a children's show that is focused on fun, not on marketing. It's all about the music, and their live dance parties invite local kids to join in by way of an email list sent out to parents. The show is produced by Stuckey's Monkey Boy Studios, and run entirely by a group of volunteers (Bands also volunteer their time). The title song is written by the drummer from Fugazi, Brendan Canty.

What would you do to see a newly reunited Rage Against the Machine playing on the same stage and day as Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, The Roots, Nas and Talib Kweli? If you said: Drive over an hour, stand in a line for 80 minutes in the 99 degree sun, avoid a restroom for nine hours, sit in possibly the worst parking lot traffic the Western Hemisphere has ever seen and inhale...

Large crowds, temps close to 100 degrees and pepper spray in the air. Ahh yes, just another night in San Bernardino. The premiere hip hop (+ one Rage Against the Machine) festival Rock The Bells rolled through the 909 this past weekend and what was billed as a celebration of respect and unity turned into a bit of a mob scene. There was something for every hip hop fan on the bill. Your backpackers...

Couldn't be better timing for this single. Gang violence in LA is making an unfortunate comeback. While we at LAist don't believe that hip-hop stars can quell violence, awareness is a step in the right direction. Fo' sheezy. But what's up with East Long Beach's Snoop Dogg and his affection for the Steelers? Anyway, we're totally down with hip hop so tonight we'll give you a double feature of this midnight movie and also...

They're dreamy they're psychedelic and they're heavy. They're Darker My Love and they've been holding court at Spaceland these Monday nights, for free, for your collective asses. Here's what we wish. You know how they have all these festivals and everything has a theme? You don't even need a festival for this, but we'd love to see one with Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Black Crowes, Wolfmother and Darker My Love, because this band just makes you want to light one up and drift off into the jamz.

What could get Paris AND Nicole to attend the same party? Us Weekly cover-girl appreciation day? George Clooney casting for a new film about heroin? Or was it such a huge event that if you didn't show up nobody would notice? T-Mobile Sidekick threw a bash at the Hollywood Palladium that Mischa, Jessica Simpson, the Duff girls, Travis Barker, Christina Milan, Taryn Manning, and Rachel Bilson waltzed into. Ten bucks they all walked out with new 'kicks.
