LAst Night's Action: Andre Does It Again - Angels are Ready

LA Dodgers beat Atlanta Braves 5-4. There were a lot of little subplots to last nights' Dodgers-Braves game. The Dodger lead was slowly slipping away (6 games over the idle Giants). Former Dodger Derek Lowe was making his return to Chavez Ravine with the Braves. Which Dodger team was going to show up? Would the Dodgers help Randy Wolf get a decision? Who knew WHAT to expect. In spite of all the uncertainty, one thing is for certain. If the game is on the line and Andre Ethier is at the plate, more often than not the Dodgers are gonna win. Andre hit his fourth career walk-off homer, a 3 run shot, to give the Dodgers the win over the Braves and keep the Dodgers 6 1/2 up of the Giants in the NL West.

Hey, did you hear something about gas prices being really high? There was something on the news and a little blurb on the inter-web the other day. So what can you do for dear ol' dad this Sunday that won't burn up your wallet and set your pants on fire like a liar, liar? Well, you can keep the car in the garage, jump on the Metrolink, and head down to Anaheim to see some hot interleague action as the Angels take on Chipper Jones (.414 BA, 15 HR) and the Atlanta Braves (32-35).

Angels 13, Tigers 4 - The Angels got back on track this weekend, hammering NL Central leader Detroit for 34 runs in a three game sweep. Anaheim reached double-digits in each game and had 12 runs by the end of the third inning on Sunday. Chone Figgins had three runs in the finale and every starter scored at least once. Rockies 9, Dodgers 6 - Los Angeles couldn't sustain a 9th inning rally and dropped...

Dodgers 5, Giants 3 - The Dodgers have been enjoying this rivalry lately, dominating over the past couple years and sweeping the Giants this weekend in San Francisco. It helped that Barry Bonds is mired in one of the worst slumps of his career, going hitless in his last 20 at bats (22, if you count the All Star game). He also booted a ball in left field and later threw a tantrum in the...

Angels 9, Cardinals 3 - Ervin Santana needed 115 pitches to get through just 6 innings, and his 3 earned runs over six innings was actually a major improvement over his season ERA. The Halo's offense ensured that none of that mattered, piling up the runs early and often with 18 total hits. They had seven hits and four RBI from just the 1-2 hitters (Chone Figgins and Orlando Cabrera). Blue Jays 1, Dodgers 0...

Earlier this week, Angels Third Baseman Chone Figgins suffered a broken finger that looks to keep him out for the first month of the season. The Angels are likely to start utilityman Maicer Izturis at the hot corner while Figgins is out, but this injury has got us thinking. The Halos spent all offseason trying to bring in big bats, but struck out when they went after guys like Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano and...

The Angels capped off a dramatic series victory over their northern rivals thanks to an offense that EXPLODED for three runs. While the win was important, the Angels still have serious reason to be concerned.

While LAist still thinks the Angels will wind up winning the West, Bill Stoneman and Mike Scioscia need to be very concerned about the team's hitting. The Halos are 10th in the AL in runs scored, and 13th in both On-Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage, ahead of only the Seattle Mariners. It's almost embarrassing to play 18 innings against the Blue Jays and score just one run off seven of their pitchers.
