An event that was expected to draw many families from far away has been canceled, the LAPD announced today, hoping to spread the word so people don't make the long commute. Houghton Mifflin Books withdrew their support of the text book giveaway, therefore canceling the event scheduled for tomorrow morning at the LAPD's Hollenbeck Station on the Eastside.

Southwest Flight 688 on its way to Los Angeles was taxiing at Chicago's Midway Airport around 9 a.m. yesterday morning when it's right main gear got stuck in the snow on the shoulder of the taxiway. As the day went on, temperatures in Chicago warmed up drastically causing dense fog to cover the region. And then what happened? All flights at Midway were canceled shortly after 6 p.m. ending in 80 canceled flights. Over at the city's main airport, around 400 flights were canceled. What the hell is up with air travel these days?

The Hollywood Foreign Press has just announced that the traditional Golden Globes awards banquet and show are being canceled and will be replaced by a news conference format that NBC will air. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, the new format will be an "hour-long HFPA press conference at The Beverly Hilton to be covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 pm PST on January 13."
