In these fiscally responsible times, it's all about the size of the bang relative to the buck. While the days of blowing cash on the trendy, half-assed, and all-around mediocre are long gone, I'm inclined to see this as an opportunity for those who do more with less to garner our attention and our paychecks, because, quite frankly, it feels good to promote a thoroughly good time.

Tonight In Rock: La Roux, Girl Talk, The Glitch Mob, The Golden Filter

Tonight London-based electro-pop duo La Roux will be performing to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. Pennsylvanian mash-up king Girl Talk (LAist Review, #2) is poised to headline the Pomona Fox Theater with LAist favorites Brother Reade (LAist Interview, Review) and Walter Meego (LAist Review) in tow. And, lastly, Brooklyn-based electronic act the Golden Filter will be gracing the Avalon in Hollywood. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Roxy to catch local electronic mastermind Nosaj Thing. The Glitch Mob are slated to headline.

Tonight In Rock: Green Day, Cotton Jones, Brother Reade, Fol Chen

Tonight legendary East Bay punk rockers Green Day will be headlining a sold-out show at the Henry Fonda Music Box. Local hip hop duo Brother Reade (LAist Interview, Review) is poised to grace Space 15 Twenty with none other than Illa J, the younger brother of late producer James Yancey (aka Jay Dee, J Dilla). And, lastly, LA-based indie rockers Fol Chen will be headlining the Echo with Kárin Tatoyan and Wait.Think.Fast in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch the phoenix that rose from the ashes of Page France, Cumberland, Maryland-based indie folk act Cotton Jones. LAist favorites the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Mirah, Dengue Fever, Spindrift, Brother Reade

Tonight LA-based Cambodian rock outfit Dengue Fever will be screening their forthcoming DVD, Sleepwalking Through The Mekong, as well as performing at the Echoplex. Local psych-rockers Spindrift are poised to headline Spaceland with blues-rock duo Restavrant in tow. And, lastly, LA-by-way-of-Winston-Salem hip hop duo Brother Reade (LAist Interview, Review) will be gracing Space 15 Twenty. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch Portland-based pop-folk songstress Mirah.

Tonight Australian musician/actor Ben Lee will be performing at Largo at the Coronet with musician/actress Mandy Moore. Seattle-based garage rockers Murder City Devils are poised to play to a sold-out crowd at the Henry Fonda Music Box with Brother Reade (LAist Interview, Review) in tow. And, lastly, San Franciscan singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards will be headlining Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Troubadour to catch Argentine singer-songwriter Juana Molina.

Tonight In Rock: John Legend, Warpaint, Sara Lov, Ida Maria

Tonight virtuosic R&B singer-songwriter John Legend will be performing at the Gibson Amphitheatre. Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter Sara Lov is continuing her month-long residency at Spaceland with LAist favorites Learning Music. If you missed Norwegian rock songstress Ida Maria last night, then you can catch her one last time at the Viper Room. And, lastly, it's beginning to appear as though country artist Mike Stinson is to Redwood Bar & Grill as Jon Brion is to Largo; He's practically playing any given day of the month. But we urge you to head over to the Echoplex to catch Eastside buzz band Warpaint's record release show. LA locals Brother Reade (LAist Interview, Review) and Crooked Cowboy are slated to kick off the show.

Making heads bop and girls shake their asses, Brother Reade has steadily taken over the eastside, and and soon the world, with their ingenious lyrics “This is for the strippers and the fans of the Clippers / cuz life ain’t easy for y’all” and infectious beats.

Fuck Yeah Fest has officially ended and it was Fuck Yeah-tastic. I was on my feet for nearly seven hours, regularly traversing Sunset Blvd to see eleven bands perform on Saturday. Between eight rolls of film and hundreds of digital pictures, this is day one through my lens....
