Tonight In Rock: Jon Brion, Blind Pilot, Castledoor, Bobby Birdman

Tonight, as always, local multi-instrumentalist/producer extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) will be jamming with friends at the Largo at the Coronet. Portland's own indie pop outfit Blind Pilot (LAist Interview) are poised to headline the Troubadour with none other than Rhode Island-bred folk act the Low Anthem (LAist Interview). And, lastly, local electro pop mastermind Bobby Birdman will be gracing Temporary Spaces 2 with Portland-based experimental electronic duo YACHT.

Some people go green by driving Priuses. Others brag about their bio-diesel conversions. Don't get me wrong. These are both admirable attempts at meaningful earth friendliness, but when you really want hardcore bragging rights, nothing beats abandoning the auto altogether. For their first West coast tour, The folk-pop duo known as Blind Pilot decided to head from Vancouver to San Diego by...bicycle.

Tonight English indie rockers Gomez will be headlining the Wiltern with Portland's own indie pop outfit Blind Pilot in tow. Costa Mesa-based psych rockers the Growlers are poised to kick off a month-long residency at the Echo. And, lastly, New Zealand-based singer-songwriter and Stellar* front woman Boh Runga will be gracing Largo at the Coronet. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch the first night of LAist favorites Local Natives' (LAist Interview) month-long residency. We Barbarians, the Union Line and the Outline will all be performing as well, with Justin Gage of Aquarium Drunkard on the decks in between bands. Yours truly will be DJing the final night of the aforementioned residency, August 31st.

This week English indie rockers Gomez will be headlining the Wiltern with Portland's own indie pop outfit Blind Pilot in tow. San Francisco-based psych-folk-pop act the Dodos will be gracing the Getty Center for this week's edition of Saturdays Off the 405. LAist favorites Local Natives (LAist Interview) are poised to take on a month-long residency at Spaceland. And, lastly, Raleigh-based nu-folk trio Bowerbirds will be performing at the Echo with none other than Raleigh-via-Eau Clair trio Megafaun.
