3 Boys Arrested for 'Kick a Ginger Day' Classmate Attacks

Three boys have been arrested, following an ongoing investigation of a series of attacks against redheaded classmates November 20th at a Calabasas school, abc7 is reporting. 7 students, four girls and three boys, were victims of "Kick a Ginger Day" attacks at A.E. Wright Middle School. A LA County shefiff's spokesman said "Two 12-year-olds were arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor battery, and a 13-year-old was booked for misdemeanor cyberbullying." The attacks are thought have have sprung from a plot point in a 2005 South Park episode, and propagated online via a Facebook group advocating redheads be targeted.

More Redheaded Students Say They Suffered 'Ginger' Attacks

A total of 7 students from A.E. Wright Middle School are now reporting they were victims of attacks last Friday on what was known as "Kick a Ginger Day," LA Now is reporting. Investigations into the first reported incidents indicate "at least four redheaded girls and three boys are believed to have been victims of the so-called ginger attacks at a Calabasas middle school that authorities believe were inspired by a Facebook message." The message is thought to have stemmed from a 2005 episode of South Park. "Detectives have identified eight boys at the school as formal subjects of the investigation," however so far there have been no arrests.

Culver City Councilman (also a Bar Owner) Attacked, Injured

Councilman Mehaul O'Leary was assaulted around 2 a.m.Sunday at his bar, the Joxer Daly's Pub, leaving him in the hospital with serious injuries. He's still in the hospital, but recovering, according to the LA Times. Los Angeles resident Robert Anthony Singerman, 28, has been identified as the suspect and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. No word on his wheaabouts but he is considered armed and dangerous. Culver City, like many smaller cities in the region, has a council-manager system where elected officials are part-time and hire a city manager to run day-to-day operations.

Man Dressed as UPS Robs, Attacks 90-Year-Old in Westchester

Last week Monday, a man in his early twenties dressed like he worked for UPS knocked the door of a 90-year-old Westchester woman saying he had a delivery. When she opened the door, he forced himself in demanding money, according to the LAPD. At some point during the incident police say that he kicked and chocked her before leaving the home on the 9000 block of Chase Avenue, near Loyola Marymount University, with some cash. He is described as a male Hispanic, 22-23 years old, black hair, brown eyes, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 180 pounds. Last month, a story floated around about a dog named Hoagie that saved his owners from a mountain lion in the Cleveland National Forest in Orange County. But soon after, state officials found that the mountain probably lion did not initiate the attack.

Attacks on LAPD Officers Down in 2008

Officers were attacked 527 times up to December 23 of this year, according to the Los Angeles Police Protective League today. The total is the sum of 168 assaults with deadly weapons (14 with guns), 358 physical assaults and one death. SWAT member Randall Simmons was shot and killed last February in Winnetka when his team entered a home where a barricaded suspect was holding fort.

On Wednesday night last week a 140-pound female mountain lion that had "just killed a dog and was charging at police," in the backyard of a residence near the edge of the Angeles National Forest was shot and killed by authorities on the scene. According to the Daily News, the police believe that this was the same mountain lion responsible for other area incidents, including another dog death in Arcadia and two attacks--including one death--on dogs in Glendora.

Police have arrested one suspect after Woodrow Wilson High School went into lockdown when one student was stabbed and cut multiple times by another student in a lunch time attack. The school went into immediate lock down for a couple hours and students had to stay in their classrooms. Police believe the incident was gang related.

A 21-year-old Hispanic male died today from his injuries after a 3 a.m. attack on Hollywood Blvd. near Cherokee Ave. The motive of the attack is unknown but the suspects are described as two male blacks in their 20s wearing black shirts and blue jeans, according to LAPD Officer Julianne Sohn. Approximately 300 officers were on patrol in the Hollywood Division last night. NOTE: Although both CBS and ABC (they updated their story, but not title tag headline) report that the man died, the LAPD says he is in critical condition.

Overnight, the official No on Prop 8 website was hit by a massive distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) essentially shutting down the site. According to the campaign, the attack originated from within California in addition to Texas, New Jersey and Georgia.

A late-night denial-of-service attack shut down the official website of opponents of Prop 8, the ballot initiative that seeks to ban gay marriage in California. "We're getting on the order of 1000 connections from the same IP addresses, so yeah--it looks like an attack," a No on 8 campaign staffer wrote in an e-mail during the attack. The suspect and the victim's stories differ, but one fact remains: an openly gay man was attacked with a "Yes on 8" sign. Prop 8, which seeks to eliminate gay marriage in California on next week's ballot, is the most contentious and watched ballot initiative across the country. 23-year-old Joseph Strom is due in Torrance Superior Court today for the Sunday night attack that sent the 22-year-old victim to the hospital with a inch long gash on his head.

Shocking news of a knife-attack on two Americans affiliated with the Olympics on the prestigious event's first day have local reverberations, as the victims' identities have been revealed. According to Associated Press reports, Todd Bachman and his wife Barbara were stabbed midday at the Drum Tower (pictured), a popular tourist location, by Tang Yongming, 47, from the eastern city of Hangzhou. Following the stabbings, the attacker committed suicide by leaping from the second level where the incident took place. Mr. Bachman died from his wounds, and Mrs. Bachman was hospitalized with injuries. The status of their Chinese tour guide, who was also a victim of the attack, is not clear.

In light of the new graffiti law Gov. Schwarzenegger signed into law this week, the Associated Press has looked into a concerning pattern about graffiti taggers and the public's safety. Over the past couple years, four people have died when approaching or witnessing taggers in action.

The shark attack near Catalina Island this past weekend is the 148 confirmed shark attacks along the Pacific Coast since 1900, according to the OC Register's Beach Blog. They say most have been investigation attacks and not predatory. “The shark was not interested at all in eating her, otherwise it would have stayed in the area and eaten her," explained Shark expert Ralph Collier. Over the weekend, a woman kayaking off Catalina was flung into the air when a shark bumped into her vessel. She landed on top of the shark, but swam to shore safely.
