Since LAist's last report on Kidrockers, the monthly event entertaining families with live music and stand-up comedy, two more shows have taken place -- a Dangerbird Records presentation with The One AM Radio and Eulogies on April 26th at The Echo, and a special pre-Mother's Day Spa Retreat benefiting Kid's Play International with Le Switch and Afternoons on May 9th at Castle Ivar in Hollywood.

              

Earlier this month, LA-Underground co-presented a showcase, with KXLU and Manimal Vinyl, at The Smell in Downtown LA, featuring Alexandra Hope, VOICEsVOICEs, EXITMUSIC, and Warpaint.

Tonight legendary Georgia-based folk rock duo the Indigo Girls will be headlining the El Rey Theatre. Nickel Creek fiddler Sara Watkins is poised to grace Largo at the Coronet in celebration of her forthcoming debut solo album. And, lastly, local indie rockers the Happy Hollows (LAist Review, #2, #3) will be sharing the stage at the Troubadour with fellow Los Angelenos Warpaint and Afternoons. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Regent Theater in Downtown to catch the final show of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' month-long residency. LAist favorites Amnion (LAist Review, #2, #3) are slated to kick things off.

Tonight Guitar Center will be putting on its annual Drum Off at the Henry Fonda Theatre with Papa Roach performing. LA's own buzz band the Afternoons (LAist Review, #2) are slated to rock Spaceland yet another night with the Flying Tourbillon Orchestra (LAist Review, #2), the Henry Clay People (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) and Lemon Sun. And, lastly, local techno troupe Droog are poised to host a Berlin-inspired night at the Avalon. But we strongly suggest catching San Diego's Crocodiles, who are best known as the phoenix that rose from ashes of TPTBUTET and the Prayers at the Smell—Yes, that is in fact Kristen Gundred of Grand Ole Party's hubby.

Tonight is one of those nights where you find yourself asking, "Who isn't playing in LA?" You've just about always got Jon Brion (LAist Review) jamming with friends at Largo at the Coronet. Joshua Tree-based indie rockers Gram Rabbit (LAist Review) will be headlining the Troubadour with English psych rocker Pop Levi in tow. LA's own buzz band the Afternoons (LAist Review, #2) are slated to rock Spaceland with equally buzzworthy Xu Xu Fang (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4, #5). The Hotel Café will be hosting its usual bevy of singer-songwriters, including Greg Laswell (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3, #4) and HoneyHoney (LAist Review, #2). And, lastly, LAist favorites One Trick Pony and Tenlons Fort (LAist Review, #2) are poised to put on a stellar set at the hole-and-corner Pehrspace. But as enticing as the aforementioned shows may be, we strongly suggest heading over to the Museum of Natural History, where they'll be kicking off the fifth annual First Fridays Series. LA locals the Little Ones will be accompanied by Montreal's finest, Plants And Animals.

Tonight Chicago-based alternative rockers the Smashing Pumpkins will be concluding a two-night stint at the Gibson Amphiteatre. LA locals the Afternoons (LAist Review, #2) are slated to headline Spaceland. Quirky folk rock outfit Eagle Winged Palace have a record release show at the Silver Lake Lounge. If you missed Brooklyn-based School of Seven Bells opening up for the M83 show over the weekend (shame on thee!), then catch them tonight at the Airliner in Downtown with LAist favorites Gangi (LAist Review). And, lastly, MA-based singer-songwriter Jonathan Richman will be performing at the El Rey Theatre. But we recommend heading over to the Henry Fonda Music Box to catch French electro-pop sensation Sébastien Tellier.

It was only a matter of time before hipster boys and girls grew up to have boys and girls of their own, and were left with the dilemma of how to reconcile a live music obsession with a dearth of available babysitters. Presto chango diapero! Kidrockers to your rescue! Beg, borrow, or reproduce - all you need is a little one and a sense of adventure to enjoy a family-friendly afternoon of music (not necessarily kid-specific jams) tomorrow afternoon at The Echo. Past bands of this New York staple include Los Campesinos!, Pela, Rogue Wave, Ra Ra Riot, Harlem Shakes, and Bishop Allen. Come join funny man Patton Oswalt (better known as Rémy to your Ratatouille-loving four year old) and co-host Seth Herzog to kick off the West Coast-incarnation, featuring LA’s The Deadly Syndrome. LAist’s Tom Lewis heralded 2007’s The Ortolan as “rollicky melodies of xylophone, organs, jangly guitars, and pleasantly thrashed drumkits” and liked it so much he put it on his Best of list. With openers Afternoons. This ain’t The Wiggles, my friend.

Two weeks ago, locals Sea Wolf (MySpace), whose album was number six on Nic Harcourt's Top Ten Albums of 2007, performed as the headliner of First Fridays (MySpace) at the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park.
