On Monday, Caltrans will host a groundbreaking ceremony for a carpool lane (HOV) direct connector. These are those carpool lanes that let you make a freeway-to-treeway transfer without changing lanes. "It provides a seamless transportation network," explained Jeanne Bonfilio of Caltrans to LAist over the phone. She said that it's worked so well at two other locations in the county (57/60 and 105/110 interchanges) that they decided to do another one. The $156.6 million project......

Two people have died in a crash that happened around 1:25 p.m. today on the Northbound 5 Freeway, just south of the 14 Freeway interchange, according to the LA Fire Department. A Sigalert has been issued by the CHP for a duration of an unknown period of time for the right three lanes and the truck lane.......

A wildfire erupted last night in Goleta, eight miles Northwest of Santa Barbara. It began in the Los Padres National Forest forcing mandatory evacuations of about 40 homes. Yesterday, a small fire was knocked down in the Canyon Country neighborhood of Santa Clarita and nearby in Agua Dulce, a truck caught fire on the Northbound 14 Freeway, but was quickly doused before it could spread to surrounding brush.......
