If there's any silver lining to the cloudy days ahead wrought by Prop. 8, it's that bigotry so foul comes with a price too heavy for some of its chief proponents to bear. And I'm not talking about a couple missed meals at El Coyote--Focus On the Family itself, after forking over more than $500,000 to pass California's Prop. 8 gay marriage ban, announced yesterday that its budget shortfalls are forcing it to cut... Versions for San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Sacrament and San Diego are also being distributed. Related: The map reminds us of this typographic map of Los Angeles neighborhoods.... [continue]

Last night, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people gathered for a protest outside the Church of Latter Day Saints' Manhattan Mormon Temple and march down Broadway to Columbus Circle. The planned and peaceful event shut down many streets, drew many cops to the area as the march winded through streets with spirited chants. Earlier on Wednesday and not too far from New York City, gay marriage legally began in Connecticut to which one Gothamist commenter asked... [continue]

Photo by mlpdesign via Flickr An e-mail is floating around pointing out Southern California restaurant high ranking employees or owners who donated to Yes on Prop 8, which sought to eliminate gay marriage. The author of the e-mail, who wished to remain anonymous wrote "it's wrong to penalize those whose employees were the ones that donated, of course, so this list is limited only to ownership and decision-making upper management. Still, the results are... [continue]

Apparently the well intentioned free lunch to discuss El Coyote manager Marjorie Chrisoffersen's $100 donation to pass Prop 8, ultimately eliminating gay marriage in California, did not go one bit well. "A floor manager stood in the middle of the back room where the community conference and stated that 'El Coyote DOES NOT share the same views as Marjorie.' He stated that 89 families were going to be affected by this boycott and one of... [continue]

An LAist reader caught some disturbing signage while videoing her vote today at The Aroma of Jesus Mission Church on Pico:the church had put up the sign weeks ago and had lots of literature "left around"...not sure if they should host polls again! After lodging complaints, a "very nice" poll volunteer removed the signs. Well, this is timely. Hustler's "Who’s Nailin’ Paylin?" hit the streets today and has already taken over the #1 spot on Adult DVD Empire’s best-sellers list (thanks to pre-orders), according to the Beverly Hills based company. Jumping on the Palin wagon, porn companies used Los Angeles Craigslist pages to recruit an amateur Palin look-a-like. For Hustler, Veteran MILF Lisa Ann took the job along with Nina Hartley who plays Hillary Clinton and Jada Fire as... [continue]

Last Minute Voting Tips on November 4, 2008

Election Day has finally arrived and with it continued worries about expected record turnout and what that means for each voter. Don't let that dissuade you, however, from voting when you need/want to. Last minute tips: Still don't know where your... [continue]

The bloggers who helped bring the taco truck ban in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles to national headlines have done some sleuthing with a particular commenter's IP address (it's like a digital fingerprint) who left comments bashing the cause to save the savory street food. When they compared the address left on their website to the address listed on Wikipedia page edits about the County, it was the same. What they found was that someone... [continue]
