Roll Over Beethoven and tell Billy Ray Cyrus the News
Yesterday we went against a basic guideline of not printing rumors, and both of the stories turned out to be true. Whew.
NBC4 is confirming that K-Mozart (KMZT) will indeed go country very soon, and infact will be called "Go Country 105", leaving KUSC the only other FM choice for all-classical all the time in LA, and giving us our first all-country FM station since KZLA made like a tree and left last year.
[KMZT Owner Saul] Levine scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. Monday at the Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills. Now the question is what will Mr. Levine change the call letters to?The current KMZT, referred to as K-Mozart, years ago had a jazz format as KKGO. Levine said the new country format station "will be reinvented as KKGO 'Go Country 105."'
"The previous 105.1 classical format (K-Mozart) will remain on the station in its second HD channel, and be simulcast on 1260 AM," according to the station.
High-definition radio, or HD, is a relatively new development in American radio that provides enhanced sound and additional channels for individual radio stations. However, HD radios are more expensive than other radios and so far they are owned by few listeners. - NBC4
Is KNTY taken?

Doesn't he mean they're changing the call letters to KKGO?

So classical music moves to 1260 AM. We haven't been able to pick up 1260 in the San Gabriel Valley at night - ever! Saul levine tried all Beatles, all show tunes, ... he even tried all traffic. Perhaps it's time for him to try all silence as a format - except for an occasional commercial.

Country Music was taken off the air on August 17th 2006...
Just hours after that a battle was waged by country fans who came together on countryboards.com
In October 2006, Saul Levine Flipped 540AM to Country music, Because many of the country music fans could not hear this station
more work was done through letters, phone calls and e-mails...
In December of 2006 Saul Levine gave the country music fans in Los Angeles and Orange County 1260AM,
January 8th Shawn Parr was brought in to do the morning show with Robin Banks from 6-10AM...
The country fans asked for more, because there were still SO many fans that could still not hear the station at home or at work or even in their cars so more letters, more phone calls and e-mails went out asking ANYONE to give us FM country music we could all hear... Saul Levine again came to our rescue...

We've still got KUSC, but it's sad that LA -- and most likely, any radio market, considering the reasons cited by Levine for pulling out -- can no longer support a commercial classical radio station. I fear for the long-term health of the format.

YEEHAWWW - I just can't begin to explain how excited, I was when my sister called to tell me that - I now have a country station back in the L.A. area. I live in the I.E. but work in L.A. and loosing that other station was shocking when you have nothing but RAP CRAP.. Thank you so much for thinking of us. Plus it's good to hear the same D.J's back - but I must admit I'm glad not to hear Peter's voice that was one we can do without..WELCOME BACK AGAIN
