February is National Return Shopping Carts, Milk Crates, and Bread Trays Month

Not only is February Call Your East Coast Friends To Tell Them What The Weather's Like Here Month, but thanks to this post on Metafilter, we learn that it's also Return Shopping Carts Month.
Although we can understand that stolen and missing shopping carts can cost supermarkets a pretty penny (which gets passed on to the consumer), does Vons really think that we're going to rustle up random carts and haul them into our Range Rovers and Escalades only to fuck up the interior just so they can get a few carts back?
If these carts really cost $100 each, and if the supermarkets really want to stop them from walking off the lot, they should do what the 99 cents store (and we're sure several other markets) have done, which is install magnets around the parking lot so there's no way you can steer them past the powerfully invisible force field.
Meanwhile we're still trying to figure out who the hell would steal a Bread Tray and what purpose it would serve?

They'll get my milk crates when they pry them from my cold dead hands.
