Looks like Inland Invasion is going to be a quasi-metal onslaught, nearly as meaty as Ozzfest, but just like most things KROQ these days, a tad watered-down and lacking.

Guns N' Roses are the headliners of the Sept 23rd festival, and they're lacking a good chunk of Guns N' Roses. Hell, you don't even get Buckethead any more. Irony abounds as bassist Tommy Stinson now plays with Guns -- his first band was... The Replacements.

Last week Axl called in to Kevin and Bean and chatted for about ten minutes (audio here) about the band's first live show in LA in over a decade. Inland Invasion takes place at the Hyundai Pavilion in Devore.

Another curiosity will be Alice In Chains, whose singer died a few years ago.

Borrowing from Ozzfest, KROQ signed up metal-ish Avenged Sevenfold, who might get some girls into the show. Which is necessary when you have Muse, Papa Roach, Rise Against, Atreyu, and Buckcherry on the bill. Sure there's pretty boy whatshisname in 30 Seconds to Mars, but are you really going to show up at this marathon event the minute the gates open to see Jordan Catalano?

Very interesting change of pace from KROQ, as last year's lineup was incredibly diverse and, lets say, more musical. You had Garbage, Weezer, Beck, Arcade Fire, Oasis, Madness, Bloc Party, 311, and Jet. Don't get us wrong, LAist loves the rock, especially the hard rock, but what's KROQ trying to tell us by only having one female-led group in two years?
