Mel Gibson Sorry for Drunk Driving, Not for Hating Jews
"The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." - Mel Gibson, who now has something else to add to his list of controversial quotes regarding religion.
You'd think that even if you said that drunk, you'd apologize your ass off the next day. Especially if you're in the Popularity Game and you work alongside a fair share of Hebrew ladies and gentlemen.
Instead, after Mel Gibson's arrest for DUI, and filmed drunken offense-fest, the award-winning director released a broad, grand, sweeping statement that focused far more on the Sheriff's Dept. than it did the Jewish community. The same community that Gibson's father outraged when he denied the Holocaust . The same community where some felt that Gibson's biggest film "The Passion of the Christ" was not just anti-Semitic but "the most virulently anti-Semitic movie since the German propaganda films of World War Two".
Therefore we scratch our heads when we think of the lawyer who helped pen Gibson's "apology" and wonder if he was drunk too for not paying more attention on the Jews and instead focusing on the deputy, one of whom he called "sugar tits".
Mel Gibson's statement:
After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.Part of the police report was also released yesterday - good luck deciphering it - (.pdf)I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health.

I guess that its a shame that Mel has slipped back into the bottle. We may never know the circumstances behind this, but Mel's drunken rants has provided the public a direct peipeline into the workings of his mind (out of control or not.) Guess he blames the Jews.......for a lot of things.

Guess I'm somewhat surprised at the elevated newsworthiness of Mel Gibson being pulled over for DUI and saying the kind of things drunk people say-- this time about Jews. I can't imaging this would get the notice it has if his rant had been about George Bush, Gibson's wife or anyone else. Perhaps that's the real story here, how within the painful and dangerous escalation of world events, Mel Gibson's drunken tirade becomes competes for headline statis. What ashame.

Just a point of order: It was the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. that was the arresting authority, and to whom Gibson's alleged comments and subsequent apologies were directed, not the LAPD.

Are you familiar with blood alcohol content? Mel Gibson had a BAC of .12, which for a man his size equals 5-6 beers. All it takes is a six-pack to turn Mad Max into a raving anti-semite. Think about it.

He made the statement apologizing to the police, because the anti-semitic tirade had not got out yet, and he was hoping if he kissed their ass, they would cover it up, and his career could be saved. I am Roman Catholic, but Mel Gibson is toast!

He apologized to the police because at that point, the anti-semitic tirade had been covered up. He was trying to keep it that way. Now that it is out, he is just toast. I am Roman Catholic, and would like to point out that Jesus was a Jew, and He preached love. I don't think He would appreciate those earlier hate-filled posts.

It's obvious that Mel Gibson lied when he previously said he does not hate Jews. This incident was just proof of the hate he harbors inside probably due to his upbringing and his father's denial of the holocaust. His lack of control over alcohol and his temper is what is the most scarey. Just imagine what someone with so much hate and lack of control is capable of doing. As a nation of people of many religions and ethnic groups, we would be foolish to continue to pay this man to entertain us. We must stand together for peace and say "no" to Mel Gibson.

I will keep this brief because I am sure my comments will make little difference to people like Jodete, and the person in Post [3], who simply hate people whom they know nothing about. To say the Jews started WWI and WWII simply shows that you know nothing of history at all. Go to a reputable source and read about the causes and effects of WWII. You will see that the Jews were a scapegoat for the struggling Germans of the 1920s, along with homosexuals (whom you probably hate too, and the mentally challenged). It seems you would have been persecuted too after all! A bit of trivia for you though: the world has ~6billion people, 18 million are Jewish. That’s less than .02%. One third live in the USA, or .3% of the population of this country. You blame your problems on the Jews because you are full of hate and know no better. The Jews, Christians, and Muslims who live in Israel simply want to carry on their lives in a progressive society where their lives aren't threatened on a day-to-day basis. Israel never initiates attack towards her neighbors, but instead is bombarded everyday. When Israel fires on attacking militants, they strategically place unfortunate civilians in the crossfire. The Israelis try to prevent casualties, but it is impossible to prevent 100% of them. The militants, whom the Israelis are combating, make it a point to target hospitals and kindergartens... Rather than apologize, as Israel does when it harms civilians, the Militants celebrate. They regards Jews, Christians, and anyone who doesn't accept the teachings of Allah as Infidels. Americans, we are next after Israel. I am Jewish, and I care about Palestinians. I, and most Israelis, wish not only for the Palestinians to have a country, but to thrive there and to live in a society that promotes individual progress and freedom. Now, especially with their elected militant leaders (hamas), Palestinians lack rights that you and I take for granted. If a Palestinian in Gaza opposes Hamas, their government, he or she will be killed. All Israel wants is the land which it currently has. They are even willing to give some up for peace. Israelis, like us, should be able to live without fear of homicide bombers and katyusha missiles, as should Palestinians, and nobody’s home should be taken away from them. As for the people above who support Gibson's bigotry and comments, I suppose you have heard the arguments I have put forth before, and yet again, you probably learned nothing from it. Unfortunately, the world will probably continue through cycles of warefare and predjudice simply because people like those above fail to study and learn from history. Bless you all.

Regardless, Mel Gibson is a lousy actor. Plenty of drunks are good actors, past and present, but not Mel. Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, and Richard Harris could be drunk as lords and still play everything from Shakespeare to modern day drama.
Poor old Mel has been okay a couple times (Gallipoli, and the other one escapes my memory) and downright lousy most of the time. His biggest fans love the dumbest action flicks, and wouldn't know any better, as long as it's some kind of buddy picture with Mel acting smiley, so I guess it hasn't hurt his career. Even getting drunk and yelling racial insults like some mouth-breather from the Ku Klux Klan probably won't hurt his career, since his biggest fans probably talk the same way when they're just sitting around their trailer.
Still, it would help if Mel could act. Like now. Acting like he's sorry for making such an ass of himself would be a start.

Jesus, perhaps the most famous Jew in history, understood that we all have sin in our hearts. Anyone claiming to be without ugly feelings in their heart, at some times about some things, is just another liar and hypocrite. If Mel is contrite, as he appears to be, then he deserves some slack. Many of the same people who condemn his ugly words about Jews look the other way when Jews get slaughtered.
