Perez Calls Lance a Fag
LAist likes the gossip blogs, we'll admit it. We're secret members of the JJB; we check in daily with JustJared, WWTDD, goldenfiddle, CityRag, Defamer, the Go Fug Yourself girls, and we're totally stoked that Trent is enjoying his recent move here to LA.
We're fans of Linds, Paris, Mischa, Britney, Mariah, Xtina, Scarlett, KFed, Jake, wait did we say KFed, scratch that.
Anyways, we don't think it's cool to call someone a fag
while you're outting them
on your blog

If a guy has waited 20-30 years to reveal something as private and personal and controversial as something like that, and if for some reason he wants to announce it in People magazine, you'd think a gentleman might let him do that.
And if that gentleman was in the business of reporting news about celebs, and if his job included telling his readers what to expect in the upcoming gossip mags, it wouldn't kill that gentleman to be gentlemanly about it.
We know Perez thinks he's funny. We hope Perez ment it as a sort of welcome-to-the-club,
but "fag" scribbled on your photo is a sort of shitty welcome-to-the-club,
which is probably why Perez Hilton has a long way to go to become the official greeter at the WeHo Wal*Mart.
LAist doesn't care who's gay, who's not, nor who's allegedly gay like Lance Bass. We're not huge fans of N*Sync. And we don't hate Perez Hilton.
We just wish he'd take a breath before he plays mean next time to someone .
And think about how Trent would do it.
And be nice to boybanders, they have enough problems.

A few thoughts:
1. Whats the difference between Hilton catching wind that People was going to report this vs. other bloggers repeating what Perez said? I agree that stealing another writer's story is wrong - heck, it made Drudge what he is today - but this is what all gossip bloggers do... at least Perez isn't outting someone who doesn't want to be outted.
2. Fags call each other fags. Don't see how this is meanspirited.
3. I wonder how much Lance's sexuality played into his inability to go into space?

yeah - agree with david - it's similar to ethnicities calling each other slang words others can't really say. it's off-color and I don't agree with it, but nothing shocking.

im not saying that two gay guys cant call each other that, im saying that to say it as a way to out someone isnt incredibly classy. or funny.

It's more about the fact that Perez relentlessly called Lance a fag, asked when he was gonna come out already, posted photos of he and his boyfriend in the same clothing, posted photos labeled "fag" etc. etc. for months. He was relentless and cruel about forcing poor Lance out of the closet, and that is just wrong. Lance has said in this People article that the one thing he hates is that his mother had to find out he was gay via the web. Forcing someone out before their ready is a crime.

I should add I can't f-ing stand perez hilton or his classless gossip blog. in this instance alone, fixating on someones sexuality and slandering him in the process, esp. with perez being a gay man, is disgusting and shows what a trashy smut whore he is.
