Photos: The Costumed Madness Of West Hollywood's Halloween Carnaval

On Tuesday night, thousands gathered in West Hollywood for the city's annual Halloween Carnaval.

The roving party, which began in 1987 and has steadily grown into a nationally known event in the decades since, spanned Santa Monica Boulevard from Doheny Drive to La Cienega Boulevard. It's now billed as the world's largest Halloween party.

Security was stepped up Tuesday night after a terror attack in New York City killed eight earlier in the day across the country, but Sheriff's Sgt. Shawn Cohen told City News Service that potential security concerns had been taken into account during the planning process.
