This Gorgeous Yayoi Kusama-Inspired Menu Will Pair Perfectly With The 'Infinity Mirrors' Exhibit Next Door

We know you're sick of hearing about how cool Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Rooms are, especially since the first round of tickets for the upcoming Infinity Mirrors special exhibition at the Broad sold out at the speed of light. Luckily for those of us who didn't nab tickets, Otium—a downtown L.A. restaurant next door to the Broad—is offering a Kusama-inspired menu later this month.

Starting October 21, the day the Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors exhibition opens at the Broad, Otium—which opened in 2015 and earned a spot on Jonathan Gold's list of 101 best L.A. restaurants last year—will serve up a rotating variety of menu items inspired by Kusama's work, changing up the artistically-themed dish every two weeks.

Otium's special Kusama-inspired dishes, which will be available one at a time through January 1, 2018, include a "wood oven-roasted octopus" inspired by the tentacle-heavy work Life (Repetitive Vision) and a "frozen passionfruit colada", made with martinique rhum and studded with white tea coconut boba, that draws on Kusama's polka-dotted Obliteration Room.

The restaurant will also offer a roasted butternut squash dish inspired by "All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins", a shaved-beet and avocado plate based on "Dots Obsession—Love Transformed into Dots" and, tantalizingly, a red and white-dotted, tentacled creme fraiche mousse meant to evoke the color and texture of "Infinity Mirror Room: Phalli's Field."

Obviously, nothing compares to Kusama's actual work in terms of Instagram fodder artistic value, but if you can't finagle your way in to snap a selfie at one of the six Infinity Rooms that will be on display at the Broad this month, this Kusama-themed menu is a reasonable (and delicious) backup plan.
