Tartine Comes To L.A. At The New Fred Segal Cafe On The Sunset Strip

L.A. still has to wait until 2018 for the Tartine Manufactory to open at the Row DTLA, but in the meantime we can see the Tartine team's impact over at the new Fred Segal on Sunset Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard. The Cafe within the new store opened Monday, and it currently sells coffee from Coffee Manufactory and will gradually roll in pastries and a cafe menu from Tartine.

Coffee Manufactory is the coffee-roasting arm of Tartine. The stand-alone roasting facility is located at Jack London Square in Oakland and produces small-batch coffee from sustainably-sourced Latin American and African beans. Besides the new Fred Segal location, it's possible to get their coffee at Felix in Venice and Botanica in Silver Lake, Destroyer in Culver City, and at the upcoming restaurant from April Bloomfield.

The cafe originally had plans to open a bit later, but due to the quick unveiling of the new Fred Segal property, the Fred Segal Cafe by Tartine opened to the public before schedule (hence the coffee-only service at the moment). Food & Wine reports the full menu of sandwiches and pastries will roll out in early 2018. The menu will include Tartine's famous baked goods as well as new items Tartine co-owner Chad Robertson has been developing up in San Francisco.

The opening of Coffee Manufactory derived from Robertson's observation of Tartine patrons waiting in line for food while sipping coffee from other places. "They would say, 'You guys have the best food, but you don't have the best coffee,'" he told Food & Wine. He believes in offering high-quality goods in an approachable setting, and hopes to do exactly that with world-class coffee in the new Tartine cafe.

Fred Segal Cafe by Tartine is located at 8500 Sunset in West Hollywood. It's open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
