When moving pictures really took off, the industry launched a parcel of new stars. And those stars needed somewhere to set up sprawling homes to relish their new wealth. That place was Beverly Hills, popularized in part by trendsetting celeb couple Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, who gave their lavish estate the name Pickfair.
