Video: Watch 3 White Sharks Feed Off Floating Whale Carcass

Passengers aboard a high-speed catamaran this weekend headed back into Ventura Harbor had the rare chance to see a group of sharks, including three Great Whites, feasting upon the carcass of a Minke whale. Naturally, the moment made it onto video.

"It's unclear how the minke whale died, but to sharks lured by the scent of its decomposing carcass, the whale represented sustenance for days, perhaps weeks," explains the description on YouTube for a clip of the footage.

Chris Biggerstaff shared a longer video of the sighting, and elaborates:

We saw the dead whale floating on the way back from Santa Cruz Island. We were about 7 miles or so from Channel Islands Harbor in the Santa Barbara Channel. We were surprised when we saw so many sharks feeding on the whale carcass. I put the camera in the water on the end of a pole. We talked about going diving with the sharks but decided against it. The sharks bumped the camera on three different occasions. It was pretty cool to see this first hand.
