10 Great Places in L.A. To Enjoy Craft Beer

Los Angeles has been hailed the new frontier of beer, and with good reason. And while it may be damn hard to open up a microbrewery within the County, there are still bountiful places where you can have a seat and a sip of some delicious brews. Here are 10 of our favorites.

CITY TAVERN
Beer is so central here at this Culver City hang that you can request to sit at tables that have their own taps. Pair your brew with some tasty bites from their upscale comfort food menu, like the grilled cheese, and don't forget to get an order of their tasty fries.

City Tavern is located at 9739 Culver Boulevard in Culver City, (310) 838-9739

VERDUGO BAR
This small, dim bar with a kickass patio may have been what finally gave hip folks a reason to head to Glassell Park back when it first launched. It's an unassuming space that is welcoming to friends gathering for a hang out, or a for a date. Special events often include food trucks and live music.

Verdugo Bar is located at 3408 Verdugo Road in Glassell Park, (323) 257-3408

TONY'S DARTS AWAY
Though their beer list is relatively compact compared to other spots, Burbank's Tony's Darts Away is a great hang, thanks to its basement rec room vibe. Plus, they are part of the team behind the increasingly popular annual L.A. Vegan Beer Fest event. Get your brews here in a flight to get a taste of what's on tap, and chow down on refined pub grub, like their evolving menu of sausages and sandwiches, many veggie and vegan, and their Disco Fries.

Tony's Darts Away is located at 1710 W Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, (818) 253-1710

BLUE PALMS BREWHOUSE
Things were looking a little iffy there for the future of Blue Palms Brewhouse, located at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, but the pours are going strong, as is there menu of hearty bar food.

GOLDEN ROAD BREWING
The brewpub adjoining Golden Road's brewery is a great place to sit back with friends or family and check out the house brews, as well as the taps for other stellar craft beers. Their vegan-friendly menu and dog-friendly patio makes this one of the city's most convivial spots for beer-drinking.

Golden Road is located at 5410 W San Fernando Road in Atwater Village (213) 542-6039

CONGREGATION ALE HOUSE
A gastropub in a church atmosphere? That's pretty much the theme of the Congregation Ale House, complete with servers in Catholic school girl skirts. In both Pasadena and Long Beach, at both locations you'll find plentiful brews on tap, and a solid menu of grub. We recommend getting a basket of fries with a variety of their fun dipping sauces to go with your beers. Cheers, and praise the hops!

Congregation Ale House is located at 300 S Raymond Avenue in Pasadena, (626) 403-2337 and 201 E Broadway Avenue in Long Beach, (562) 432-2337

SUNSET BEER CO.
While admittedly the scope of what's on tap here to sit down and sip on the spot is very minimal, Sunset Beer Company is where you go when you want to get to know your craft beer then take some home. Opened in 2011, the shop has six rotating taps in their tasting area, but fridges loaded with a thoughtfully curated selection of global and regional brews aimed at expanding and pleasing a beer lover's palate. Flummoxed by the choices? Ask for suggestions from the savvy staff.

Sunset Beer Company is located at 1498 W Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, (213) 481-2337

MOHAWK BEND
With over 70 craft beers on tap, a former movie theatre as a space, and plenty of veggie and vegan dishes on their largely locally-sourced menu, Mohawk Bend earned its rep as Echo Park's food/drink scene and be seen spot before they even opened. When it comes to light bites and beer (and beer, and more beer!) Mohawk Bend really delivers.

Mohawk Bend is located at 2141 W Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, (213) 483-2337

LITTLE BEAR
The beers at Little Bear in the still-blossoming Arts District in Downtown L.A. are largely Belgian, and are available from rotating taps or by the bottle. The large, moody space gives patrons plenty of room to grab a seat and savor their beer along with items from their upscale pub grub menu.

Little Bear is located at 1855 Industrial Street in DTLA, (213) 622-8100

LADYFACE ALEHOUSE & BRASSERIE
Perhaps a little far flung for many, it's still worth the drive to Agoura Hills to check out the beers and bites at Ladyface. It's a bit tidier than your average ale house, but that's all the more reason to relish the setting, and settle in for some suds and Belgian and French inspired brasserie fare (or more traditional bar grub) on their scenic patio. On tap is a generous selection of their own brews, as well as guest taps.

Ladyface Alehouse & Brasserie is located at 29281 Agoura Road, in Agoura Hills, (818) 477-4566
