Local Photojournalist Falls To His Death While Trimming Tree

Gabriel Acosta, a 46-year-old Riverside resident and longtime photojournalist, fell to his death Saturday afternoon while he was trimming a tree in his yard.

Acosta was alone when he fell about 15 to 20 feet, said Cal Fire/Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Blair, according to the Press-Enterprise.

He broke both legs and suffered a head injury in the fall.

Relatives called 911, who rushed to the scene, but could not save Acosta.

According to his biography on his personal website, Acosta was a staff photographer for the San Bernardino Sun paper and Riverside Magazine. A professional photographer for over 20 years, Acosta also operated his own business, GLA Photo, out of Riverside. On his Twitter account, the SoCal native spoke with pride about his work, including recent assignments at the L.A. County Fair, and his faith.
