Anonymous & Anti-War to Hit Hollywood Saturday
Update, 3/15/08: Here's a video of the LAPD at the Anonymous event and a photo essay of all the craziness. Also, here's a video from the Anti-War March.
If you're walking the streets of Hollywood this Saturday, be prepared to march or take in the sights -- two protests are planned and both could be crazy.
March 15th is the second of worldwide protests against Scientology planned by Anonymous. In the video below, 22 rules are set to visuals of Los Angeles in a very creepy but cool way. If you missed all the action, you'll understand a lot more by checking out our photo essay from the last protest. Info about Saturday below the video.
Over at Hollywood and Vine starting at noon, AnswerLA will protest the fifth anniversary of the war (March 19 is the actual day, but that's a weekday for those school and working folks). Their website reads: "Thousands of people in Los Angeles and across the world will mark the 5th anniversary of the criminal invasion of Iraq. Over 1 million Iraqis and nearly 4,000 U.S. soldiers have died for corporate profits and lies. The people of the world our voices heard."
When and Where for Anonymous Protests
3/15 11AM-2PM @ 4810 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA (In front of Big Blue)
Address:We take a three hour "break," you do your own thing, and we meet at the next location.
3/15 5PM-Whenever @ 665 W Jefferson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90007 (The Shriners aka L Ron Hubbard Birthday Party)
More info about the 11 a.m. protest (and a later 5 p.m. one) at March15.org and the first post of this bulletin board.

Well interesting anyway.
I'm just wodering why they couldn't pick a different day.
Now our anti-war message will get to be mixed with their anti-Scientology message.
I think thousands of Americans soldiers, and hunderds of thousands of Iraqis, getting killed in an illegal war, might just be a little bit more important than protesting some bogus religion invented by some sci-fi huckster on a pub bet, that a lot of people bought into.

I don't think messages will get mixed up, however, you'll be both vying for media attention. Mainstream will pick up on the anti-war while internet will tend to pick up on Scientology.
We'll try our best to cover both here at LAist, submit photos to our Flickr pool or e-mail them our way!

Wow, anti-Scientology protest posts seem to be the new Ron Paul posts, now that Tony is gone.
I said it before and I'll say it again:
I'll assume that every participant in these protests are atheists, considering that every organized religion is guilty of these charges.

No shit torrmoz!
Why not pick on Benny Hinn?

Oh man, if I could past that security and get at Benny Hinn, look out!

Elise, if there were a Gawd, he'd prolly let you.

Nah, they aren't the new Ron Paul posts. If Scientology wants to go out and protest Anonymous, we'll announce and cover that too. But they aren't, so were not going to either.

Sorry to disappoint, torrmoz. Roman Catholic Anonymous here. :) I fully supported the protest efforts against my religious organization's handling of criminal activities that lead to media coverage and change within the Church, let's hope these protests have the same effect. Anonymous, go go go! See you on 3/15.

Most of us know that Scientology is a cult. However it's much worse than just some con-men stealing money.
We're talking extortion, kidnapping, murder. Slave labor. Very bad things.
No one is denying that the iraq war is a controversial and important subject, and we request that you do not discount our movement without reading up on it first.
Also, the demonstration is this weekend, as it is the celebration of LRH's birthday. Because of that there will be many (if not all) of the local Scientologists attending services, and a party afterwards. Our hope is to get them to think: "Why are these people protesting us?"
A seed of doubt can go a long way in helping a person that is trapped and confused.

hero, A person makes a conscious choice about whether to let another person or religion control their lives, and last time I checked we have freedom of religion in this country.
So good luck, but I think you guys are charging at a windmill.

Look up Junipero Serra, (and they cannonized him).

"Rule #22: Document the demonstration. Videos and pictures of the event may be used to corroborate your side of the story if law enforcement get involved. Furthermore, posting images and videos of your heroic actions all over the internet is bound to generate win, exhorting other Anonymous to follow your glorious example."
Both protests will be covered. We will be following Rule #22 at the AnswerLA.org rally. We understand the solidarity required for actions of this size.
"Rule #13: Anonymous is legion. Never be alone. Isolation during a protest marks you as a target for handlers who wish to provoke an angry reaction from you and other hostiles."
You are not alone.
We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. We will be heard. Expect us.
