Sweets For the Sweet
Got a sweetheart with a sweet tooth? Valentine's Day is just around the corner and candy is everywhere. I'm not into those heart-shaped boxes full of chocolates nor do I think my boyfriend would want to receive one of those from me - but everyone likes candy, right? It's a fun gift and can be surprisingly meaningful if you put some thought into it.
When your loved one was a kid, what was their favorite candy? Do they have cravings for a regional candy that isn't available here in Los Angeles? It can even be as simple as giving them a whole container of the one flavor of Skittles they prefer.
Groovy Candies has a great selection of retro candies you can order online. From Valomilk and candy cigarettes to Big League Chew, they have an easily browseable selection of brands, flavors and colors. You can even buy a grab bag for specific decades.
Still confused about what the right choice should be? Take a look at Candy Blog for tons of mouth-watering photos. Each candy is thoroughly reviewed and rated with price listings. Since Cybelle the writer lives in Los Angeles, she helpfully makes note of the location and where one can purchase her finds.
Still want that box of chocolates?
Local candymaker See's is a perennial favorite. Much of the delectable lollipops and chocolates sold in stores throughout the city are made from their kitchen on La Cienega. For something a little more artful and exotic, Recchiuti Confections makes handmade candies like Fleur De Sel caramels and chocolates illustrated by printmaker Liz Saintsing.
Candy makes people happy, so make like Walter Payton and show your affection with some confection.
