Cheesedance 2007 - Clementine Celebrates National Grilled Cheese Month

Clementine-Cheesedance-2007.jpg

There has been a gross oversight, a lapse in judgment, a glitch in the matrix, a ghost in the machine, and so on and so forth… It's National Grilled Cheese Month and somehow it slipped by me like an invisible man on a banana peel.

Luckily, we're not even halfway through the month, so there is still time to recover. And even more luckily, Clementine, the cutest, coziest, tastiest, freshest, raddest, lil restaurant on the Westside is not only participating in this event, but they are downright championing the mofo.

And while I heave a hearty sigh goodbye to their now hibernating “Autumn Chicken Salad” (they make seasonal food), it is with great pleasure that I introduce their very sexy April menu, done-up with a film festival treatment. Take a gander at the eleven page PDF menu/manifesto. Clearly they take their very cheese seriously, but not lame and snooty seriously. Dear Clementine, will you marry me?

Each day in April they are featuring one or more specialty grilled cheese sandwiches, replete with food puns and film innuendo:

Now Playing:
Queso Fundido - A Trans-Iberian Journey
Principal Cheeses: Manchego, Queso Mahon
Supporting Meat: Lomo
Bread: Rosemary
Condiments: Quince Paste

-- The latest work from director Hector Cabrales, this sandwich is a showcase for some of the most flavorful talent in Spain. Queso mahon really stretches its melting range, and manchegos performance is endearing in its sheepishness. In his youth, Lomo often complained of being cast merely as a piece of meat. But, after seeing Lomos performance here, it is clear that that problem has been cured...

Wow. I had no idea. Gives me an excuse to check out the newish place in Culver City. It's called Meltdown, and features grilled cheese and soups. I love me a gooey, toasty grilled cheese... Thanks for the tip!

I work within walking distance to Cleme's and make a weekly trip...im completely addicted to their pickles, yes, pickles. Like no other.

I love this little restaurant!
I love cheese!!

When shall we go?!
