A Day of Labor for the Dodgers as they lose 6 to 3

On a day that can only be called lackluster, the Dodgers came to Milwaukee aboard a red eye flight that kept them sleepless and restless for the next day's game. On Sunday afternoon the Dodgers were roughed up by the Colorado Rockies by a score of 12 to 5. The loss had ended a 7-game winning streak for the Blue Crew. Then, they boarded an evening flight that landed them in Wisconsin at midnight for an afternoon game less than 13 hours away. Compounding the team's tired state the Dodgers headed to a hotel that was hosting the Armenian Youth Federation Convention. Frolicking kids enjoying their youthful exuberance welcomed the team early Monday morning. Needless to say, the remnants of empty bottles and weary youths in the hotel lobby later that morning can tell you all about the potential state of mind of the team as the game started promptly at 1:00 PM.

The old man of the mound, the oracle of pitchers, the man we call “The Professor” was not on his game. Having flown with the team on Sunday evening rather than flying out a day earlier probably had a great effect on him. After all, at 40 years of age this master needs a little more rest. In 5 innings of work Greg Maddux gave up 6 earned runs on 10 hits. It was definitely not a masterful performance. For the year, Maddux is 1 and 3 against the Brewers.

Fortunately, even when a game is lost there is still plenty to be happy about. JD Drew had 3 hits to drive in 2 runs. Over the past 3 games he has 6 hits including a homerun, 4 RBI's and a 5 Runs. Jonathon Broxton has evolved into a 1st class reliever. Over the past 19 outings he has only given up only 2 runs. This spans from late July to today. Marlon Anderson, picked up in a trade with the Nationals last week, has shown a pinch-hitting prowess from the left side of the plate that will do wonders for the team as October nears. In 4 games he has 2 pinch hits in 4 attempts. In his career Anderson is a .295 pinch hitter with a .803 OPS in 200 at-bats.

This evening we will see Mark Hendrickson face off against Doug Davis. Both pitchers have not been impressive this year so it should be a fun show to watch. Tomorrows' game features Derek Lowe versus Chris Capuano.

For the year the Dodgers are 3 and 1 against the Brewers and hope to clinch the season series tonight with a win.
